Two years ago the New York Jets came off an average, 8 and 8 season. New York did surprisingly okay, giving the Jets had many problems on the field. These problems include, growing pains of a rookie quarterback, constant wide receiver injuries, and a banged up secondary on defense. With the Jets current roster, all those problems seem to not only go away, but get even better. One way to look at it is the 2015 Jets are like the 2013 Jets but better upgraded this time.
With the addition of Brandon Marshall, New Yorks wide receiver problems almost vanish. The Jets just need Eric Decker to maintain his health and the Jets could be one of the most fierce, throwing offenses in the league. Decker is now able to become a true number 2 wide receiver on offense, letting Brandon Marshall take on the top corners on the defense. Decker and Marshall could Provide a crucial two man punch the Jets didn't have in the 2013 season. If the Jets had them two years ago, that may have been enough to squeeze them into the playoffs.
Moreover, The Jets have revamped the entire cornerback position. The additions of Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie, and Buster Skrine have turned the Jets defense into the beast from the east. Quarterbacks will now hardly be able to throw the ball into green and white coverage. The Jets corner additions also cause a domino effect on the defense. With the Jets elite coverage, quarterbacks will likely keep the ball longer, therefore giving the defensive lineman more time to pursue and sack the quarterback. The Jets pass rush was already great and now they can become even better. This is a position the Jets lacked in the 2013 season that kept them out of the playoffs.
The Jets also had to deal with the harsh growing pains of rookie quarterback, Geno Smith. Even with the growing pains, Geno didn't do that horrible of a job, leading the jets to 8 wins. With this years key additions on offense, and Geno’s experience, the Jets could be way better than they were two years ago. Geno Smith has never been able to get a fair shot to play on a functional NFL offense. This year Geno can do that, and prove what he is made of.
The Jets are just like the 8 and 8 team but are even better this time. This team upgrade could be the Jets much needed attempt to be pushed back into playoff contention, and maybe even super bowl contention.
