If the Yankees had Nick Swisher, Curtis Granderson, and Robinson Cano on the team in 2015, the Yankees outlook would be much better. If they had those three guys in their batting lineup in 2014 they would've made the playoffs.
While Nick Swisher was a Yankee, he would always give the Yankees 25 homeruns, drive in 85 runs, and play the outfield really well. When Curtis Granderson was a Yankee, he had two back to back years hitting 40 or more homeruns, and was a Gold Glove Award Winner in the outfield, and ran the bases very well. Last year he hit 20 homeruns with the Mets, that would've been 35 homeruns if he was a Yankee. Robinson Cano is a guy who came out of the Yankee farm system, was always a fan favorite, and was an All Star second baseman- in fact the best in the MLB. He gave the Yankees consistency every year- over 25 homeruns, 90 RBIS, and an over .300 batting average.
These players left because they were asking for big contracts that the Yankees didn't want to give them, but I bet that if the Yankees knew that they would still be successful ballplayers with other teams, they would've brought them back and if they brought them back, the Yankees would be the best team in the American League East.
