If the New York Jets had a list of instructions on how the can achieve success, they would be unstoppable. However, there is no such thing. But if there was a list of instructions, one may look similar to this.
Step 1: Sign Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie
There is a reason why the New York Jets earned a spot in two straight AFC Championship games a few years ago. They had Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie. When both outstanding players were on the same team, side by side, no offense was able to throw against them. However, with past injuries, free agency, and trades, both players were drawn apart from each other. With the 2015 free agency coming Tuesday, March 10, they can be drawn back together again. Antonio Cromartie would be a fantastic fit on the Jets because of his time with Todd Bowles. Bowles directed Antonio Cromartie to another Pro Bowl season last year on the Cardinals. If they are paired together once again, they could repeat their past success on the Jets. Moreover,Darrelle Revis could catapult the Jets back in to success if he is released by the Patriots. Revis’s price tag will be worth $20 million this offseason and it is unlikely New England will accept it. If Revis is signed by the Jets, he would be a perfect fit in Bowles system because it is very similar to Rex Ryan's press coverage defense, in which Revis had plenty of success in the past. Both players may add up to hefty amount of money, but it will barely dent the Jets, near $50 million in cap space. Also, if the Jets decide to release Percy Harvin, their cap space will grow to near $60 million. Both players could make it worth it in the end.
Step 2: Sign Ndamukong Suh
Although Suh is being drawn to by other teams, the Jets could still make a big splash in free agency by signing him. The Jets will need a nose tackle this offseason because of Damon Harrison and Kenrick Ellis are becoming free agents. Even though New York can sign any average, filler upper nose tackle, why would the Jets do that when they could have an excess of $60 million in cap space this offseason? Suh would have a gigantic price tag, but it could prove to be worth it, given the dominance the Jets would achieve on the defensive line. With Muhammed Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, and Ndamukong Suh controlling the Defensive line, the Jets defense could be the most dominant ever.
Step 3: Sign Mike Iupati
Mike Iupati is more of a must sign for the New York Jets. With the lack of experience from Brian Winters and Oday Aboushi, and the depreciating body of Willie Colon, the Jets have to get a guard this offseason. Iupati is the best guard on the market this season. He dominated the line of scrimmage on the 49ers during his career there. If he is signed by the Jets, he could power the Jets into one one the best offensive lines in the league with Nick Mangold and D’Brickashaw Ferguson by his side.
Step 4: Sign Randall Cobb or Jeremy Maclin
Both wide receivers proved to be crucial players on their teams last year. Jeremy Maclin recorded a spectacular season last year with 85 receptions, 1,318 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns. The Jets would need Maclin to to perform like that if he was in Green and White. The Jets are in dire need of a standout receiver. Moreover, Randall Cobb could shoot the Jets into success. On the Packers, Cobb recorded 91 receptions, 1,287 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns. Once again, if the Jets signed Cobb, he could turn around the Jets offense. Whoevers the quarterback next season for the Jets, they will not have success without a great receiver like Cobb or Maclin.
If the New York Jets follow these steps, there is no doubt they will achieve success.
